Vtg Italian Apple Shaped Covered Bowl & Saucer Hand Painted Mid-Century
Unmarked
Vintage apple-shaped porcelain covered bowl and saucer This charming hand-painted set was made in Italy and likely dates to the 1970s-1980s. It includes an apple-shaped bowl, possibly designed as a sugar or condiment bowl, with a matching lid and underplate/saucer. It is decorated with purple grapes and a vine of gold floral foliage. The lid finial is shaped like a flower with hand-painted gold petals and center. It would make an interesting accent piece for cottage-style or country-style decor and could work on a vanity or dresser top as a trinket holder. Condition: Pre-owned vintage condition with noticeable age and use-related wear. Glaze has fine crazing throughout, particularly on lidded container. Visible hairline/stress mark at or near the base of the flower-shaped lid finial. Visible linear mark on the inside of lid but is completely smooth to the touch and does not appear to be an open or penetrating crack (may be a glaze/firing mark). A couple of notches along the scalloped trim of the saucer feel rough to the touch but do not appear to be substantial chips. Minor wear and imperfections consistent with age and hand-painted pottery are present but no major breaks or obvious repairs noted.
