This is a Kagura mask [male mask].

This is an Iwami Kagura style mask.

Kagura originally began with ancient people dancing to pray for good health and rejuvenation of the soul, and it is said that this ritual of soul-purifying dances is the origin of various Shinto ritual performing arts.

A mold is made from clay, Japanese paper is carefully layered, a mixture of funori (seaweed glue) is applied, and then painted.

*Persimmon tannin is used as an insect repellent.

The hair of the Kagura mask is made from horse manes.
It will settle slightly due to gravity.

This item is a decorative mask.
It can be processed into a wearable mask for an additional fee.
